Finance Committee Meeting

Minutes – January 9, 2006

High School Library – 7:30 P.M.

Members Present:  Joel Alpert, Maria Anderson, Michael Feldman, Charles Goodman,

                               Jonathan Hitter, Joel Lessard, Ira Miller, Gregory Sydney (Hamilton)

                Absent:   Brian Fitzgerald, Kenneth Goldberg, Gloria Rose

1. This was the 13^th meeting of the Finance Committee for this fiscal year.  The topic for this evening was to go over budgets.

2. Marlene Chused, Town Clerk, was there to present her budget.

3. There was much discussion especially on revenue to the Town which goes to the General Fund and not to the Town Clerk’s office.  Most items in this budget are mandated and statutory requirements.

4. Discussion continued on many aspects of the budget such as other possible ways to raise funds.

5. The Committee would like to include the Elections & Registration budget under their sector instead of the Selectmen.

6. A suggestion was made to do all small budgets together.

7. There will be a Capital Outlay tour of facilities on Saturday, January 14 at 8:30 A.M., meeting in front of the high school.

8. Joel Alpert stated that the voters should be aware of the upcoming vote for an override for the Recreation Center and the Senior Center, and that the School Department will be coming for an override at the Spring Town Meeting.

9. There was some discussion on the override issues coming up for the Town.

10. Ira Miller stated that the Town Clerk’s salary and issues on health insurance should be in Executive Session.

11. A MOTION was made by Ira Miller and SECONDED by Joel Alpert to move into Executive Session.

12. VOTED:  8-0-0.

13. At the end of the Executive Session the Committee will adjourn for the evening.

14. The next meeting will be on January 23.

15. The regular meeting closed at 8:35 P.M.
