Finance Committee Meeting

Minutes – May 4, 2007

Town Hall, Lower Level Hearing Room

Members Present:  Joel Alpert, Maria Anderson, Charles Goodman, Joel Lessard, Laura

                               Nelson, Edward Philips (Hamilton)

                Absent:   Brian Fitzgerald, Jonathan Hitter, Ira Miller, Gloria Rose, Gregory

                               Sydney

1. The agenda was to discuss the $2.9 million override which could not be discussed at Town Meeting.  Joel Alpert stated that it was important that everyone understands that the three-year override will incur a permanent increase in the tax levy.

2. Chuck Goodman reported on the town of Marshfield and how they handled their override question.  He stated that they had two questions, one for $2 million, one for $4 million with $800,000 Stabilization Fund July 1, 2007.

3. There was considerable discussion held on these issues.

4. Joel Lessard suggested that the Finance Committee may have an option of putting together a one page fact sheet before going into Town Meeting.

5. There was some discussion regarding the fact sheet.

6. Chuck Goodman stated that taxes are going to go up 9.53% if the override passes.  Taxes will go up 5.52% then another 4% if override passes.

7. There was much discussion regarding the new growth permits from Sharon Commons and the Wilber School lease.

8. It was MOVED and SECONDED to adjourn.

9. VOTED:  6-0-0.

10. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
