SHARON BOARD OF HEALTH
October 18, 2010
A meeting of the Sharon Board of Health was held on Monday, October 18, 2010, beginning at 7:30 PM at the Sharon Town Office Building. In attendance were Stan Rosen, Vice-Chair; Jay Schwab, Andrew Stead, and Ed Welch.
Flu Clinics
Stan Rosen reported on the upcoming flu clinics sponsored by the Sharon Board of Health.
BOH Policy #5
Stan Rosen noted that the BOH policy #5, which addresses the election of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board, has been changed in previous years to accommodate the appointment/reappointment schedule of the Board of Selectmen. However, in the past couple of years the election of BOH officers has taken place in January to follow BOS appointments...despite the policy that election take place in October. Stan Rosen proposed that the Board make policy catch up with practice, i.e., that the election occur in the month following Board of Selectmen appointment. Jay Schwab stated it would be wise to be in keeping with the timing of BOS appointments.
VOTED:Rosen/Schwab...voted unanimously to change BOH policy #5 to state that vote for chair and vice chair will take place in the month following BOS selection. Also, that the next vote for chair and vice chair will take place following the next appt. by the BOS...most likely to take place in January 2011.
Minutes of Executive Session of September 13, 2010...
VOTED: (Stead/Rosen): Stead, Rosen, and Schwab voted to accept the minutes of the executive session of September 13, 2010, as amended. Welch abstained.

Influenza Reimbursement...
Stan Rosen reviewed a proposal from Commonwealth Medicine to act as intermediary for billing purposes for administration of flu vaccine to those under age 65.
VOTED: ( Rosen/Stead.) unanimously to approve a contract between the Sharon Board of Health and Commonwealth Medicine for the purpose of billing health insurance plans for influenza reimbursement for residents under the age of 65.
Islamic Center fire drill
The Fire Department. noted deficiencies during a recent fire drill: e.g., emergency exits blocked, etc. Bill Iannucci was scheduled to inspect the Center. .
Massachusetts Cancer Registry
The Board reported on the recent publishing of the MA Cancer Registry. It was noted that many cancers may be found in various ethnic and age populations; and that Sharon residents are heavy users of medical facilities.. The report is posted on the DPH website.
Jonathan Goldberg...Animal Hearing
Jonathan Goldberg presented a proposal for 10 chickens at his property at 190 Pond Street. Stan Rosen noted the proposal is within the BOH regulations; no abutters were present.
VOTED: (Rosen/Welch.) unanimously to approve one animal unit (10) chickens for Jonathan Goldberg at 190 Pond St.
