SHARON BOARD OF HEALTH

August 27, 2012

Community Center

The meeting of the Sharon Board of Health was called to order at 7:30 PM by Suzi Peck, Chair.  In attendance were:  Suzi Peck, Chair, Jay Schwab, Vice-Chair, Stanley Rosen, Andy Stead, and Ed Welch.

Minutes to the 7/9/2012 were accepted with the following changes from Jay Schwab (Peck/Stead): 

“Ms. Russell met with BOH to discuss promoting the awareness of the toxicity of mercury in dental amalgam and other dental materials.  Ms. Russell only became aware of the potential problem with the mercury in dental amalgam and the issues facing her after a year-long illness in which she has met with a variety of doctors and specialists.

It is Mrs. Russell’s goal to spread the word so that the community may become healthier.  Beginning the initiative ‘One Town, One Challenge,’ she is inviting the town, the schools, the library, cable TV, individuals, families, and citizens to engage and educate themselves about the health issues that concern her over the next year.  Jay Schwab, a dentist, didn’t think that Ms. Russell’s conclusions were based on scientific literature.

The board invited Ms. Russell to meet with it again to present more information after her efforts and additional scientific material.  At that time the board can assess in more detail what educational assistance they may or may not be able to provide.  It is the opinion of the board that banning of amalgam is beyond their purview.”

Jay to contact Dr. Hartmann to change his BOH appointment date to 9/24/12, since only three members are able to attend on 9/10/12.

Suzi and Jay met with Ben and the selectmen to discuss the Health Administrator position and the salary step.

Stanley presented a budget and requested that the BOH go into Executive Session.

Sheila gave the BOH a synopsis of the Health Department’s activities and community outreach.

Role call was taken to enter into executive session for the purposes of reviewing Health Department budget and Health Administrator position.  (Peck/aye, Schwab/aye, Rosen/aye,Welch/aye and Stead/aye).  Regular BOH meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM.

Next BOH meeting is scheduled for 9/10/12.
