Friends

·         Reelected officers at the annual meeting.

Director’s Report

·         Annual Budget:  All town budgets will be presented with a 2% increase.  The library requested 1.8% and Barbra will redo the budget to factor in a 2% increase.

·         October 2012 Budget:  Bob thinks we will be short on the telephone account.  Barbra needs to figure out an amount closer to the actual amount.

·         Building Projects: The tiles were completed.

o   North Main Street Project – CPC said we could use capital outlay funds to do the project.  State aid will have to cover the amount over $2,900 and over the $11,325.

·         October Circulation – This is the first month where the figures accurately reflect the type of book (child or adult) that was checked out, rather than the type of card (child or adult) that was used to check out the book.

·         Rosemarie Waltos, MBLC building consultant is scheduled to come on January 23rd.

·         The Youth Services Librarian position has been filled by John Brisbin.  He starts 11/8.

Trustees’ Items

·         The next meeting of the Library Services Committee is November 21st at 3:00.

·         Cheryl requested that in light of the detailed director’s report that is distributed prior to the meeting, instead of a detailed summary of what is contained in the report, only additions or questions are discussed at the meetings.  This approach will be tried.

·         There was a request from Royal Publishing to take out an ad honoring the Sharon football team.  This request was denied as the library does not have the funds to support all the sports teams.

·         There has not been a change in the policy that a library card must be shown to receive museum passes.  However, someone who has extenuating circumstances and does not have their pass but knows their card number should speak with a supervisor about relief.

Action Item Update

·         Barbra will check on the original issue of mandatory staff meetings.

·         The timeline review will take place in January.

·         Bob spoke with another job coach.  He would conduct a 360 degree review that would include the director, the staff and the trustees, Unlike other consultants, he is more of a business coach.  Bob will speak with him further and report at the next meeting.

·         We are buying 7 scanners from OCLN.

·         Bob and Roberta have signed the trustees up for membership in MLTA and ALA.

·         Sharon Library Foundation:  Nancy Bass will be the treasurer, Marsha Brown will be on the board, and Allen Cohen is considering and will have an answer by the next meeting.

Bob moved at 8:45 p.m. and Alyssa seconded the motion to adjourn for the evening.  The motion was unanimously approved.
