Chair Report

Chair Friedman called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM.

Discussion

Chair Friedman said that the Committee is in the process of putting together a proposal for Town Meeting to tear down the Sacred Heart Building. She stated that the Committee worked with the various sports teams as well as Brett McGowan through many meetings. She said the SHRC are representatives of the Selectmen and will rely on the recreation groups to be a part of the process.

Mr. Bluestein said that he knows Mr. MacGowan worked on a plan but he does not have a copy of it. He thought it should be a multi purpose junior field. He said that Mr. O’Cain had mocked up what a field on the property would look like and the Recreation Advisory Committee did not have any issues with what was being proposed.

Mr. Gladstone said the proposal includes two phases: 1) Tear down building and 2) implementation to create a multipurpose field.

Mr. Bluestein said the new Recreation Director should be in place by the end of the year and then further discussions could take place.

Chair Friedman said they are looking at spring for the building to come down.

Mr. Bluestein said he does not want to do anything with the field that would disturb the neighbors. He understands the presence of the dog park and the impact the field might have on the entrance. He said trees and the pond have to be considered as well. He wants to make sure the fields will be maintained and suggested irrigation methods.

Chair Friedman said that the Community Preservation Committee did not want this field to have a negative impact on the environment.

Mr. Seggelin suggested that the new Recreation Director should have input.

Mr. Bluestein said he was concerned people would cut across the field and suggested there was not enough parking.

Chair Friedman said she would update the assistant recreation director.

Chair Friedman reviewed the document with the other Committee members. She said she would ask Mr. O’Cain if they can work in the winter to take the building down, how long does the demo take, and would include certain particulars within the RFP.

Resignations

Chair Friedman commented that Mr. Davis and Mr. Keenan had officially resigned from the Committee.
