BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
7:00 p.m.
The meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 pm in the Sharon Town Offices with Chairman William A. Heitin, Selectman Richard A. Powell, Selectman Walter “Joe” Roach and Town Administrator Benjamin E. Puritz
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
DPW Superintendent Eric Hooper – Hearing for proposed installation of “SCHOOL ZONE, SPEED LIMIT 20” signs for Ames Street in the area of 88 Ames Street
VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to open the hearing for the School Zone signs near 88 Ames Street.
Superintendent Eric Hooper said that the hearing had been advertised in the Sharon Advocate. He said that in addition to the signs the DPW would be installing a walkway that would cross Ames Street between Temple Young Israel and the Ames Street playground. He said that Temple Young Israel had become a full time school and the speed in a School Zone is 20 miles per hour. Superintendent Hooper said that he is asking that the hearing be continued to the meeting scheduled for June 30, 2009 to allow for a comment period. Should there be no comments then the Selectmen would be able to close the hearing and vote on the installation of the signs.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to approve the Regular Session and Executive Session Minutes of May 12, 2009 and May 26, 2009
APPROVAL OF FALL TOWN MEETING SCHEDULE
Chairman Heitin asked that the schedule be sent to the Finance Committee for comment.
fLAG DAY PROCLAMATION
Chairman Heitin said that Flag Day will be celebrated on June 14, 2009 and there will be two events taking place. At 3:45pm there will a ceremony at the American Legion and at 6:45pm the Annual Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance will be taking place at the Bandstand at Memorial Beach.
Selectman Powell read the proclamation.
Consider approval of contract with Old Colony Boy Scouts for Chuck Wagon Derby and day camp
selectman Roach recused himself.
VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted to approve the contract with the Old Colony Boy Scouts for the Chuck Wagon Derby and 2009 Day Camp
Chairman Heitin announced that the Board will be meeting next Tuesday night and thereafter every other week until Labor Day. He also announced that there will be a public forum at the Sharon Community Center on Tuesday July 14, 2009 from 7pm – 8:30pm regarding the Sharon Hills development.
VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to enter into Executive Session to discuss collective bargaining, pending litigation and real property and at the end thereof to adjourn for the evening.
The Board adjourned at 7:15 P.M.
