Cottage Street Elementary School (Heery, Strekalovsky & Hoit)
Construction and Budget Status: Mr. Tom Feeney gave an update on the construction project.  The move into the new building was planned for the February School vacation.  It went well.  He would like to thank the maintenance staff at Cottage for the outstanding job. Edwards Movers will be back again to move the music equipment because the gym floor was not completed.  A temporary occupancy permit has been received.  Strekalovsky and Hoit will be forwarding all the affidavits to the Building Inspectors office. Copies will be given to the SSBC. The elevator has passed inspection. The inspection certificate is being held by the elevator contractor due to a dispute with the general contractor.  Mr. Yost stated that this would be resolved at the job meeting on Wednesday. A pedestrian walkway has been installed.  The mechanical contractor will be on site to address any mechanical issues.  The faculty lounge is being used as a temporary kitchen.  A list of construction concerns is being generated through the main office.  Member Benjamin asked if any contractors are working in the newly renovated area.  The construction personnel policy is being followed.  Mr. Yost will prepare a form to be used by the teachers to document any concerns or problems in the new areas.  The bleachers will be installed during the spring break.  The members of the committee expressed concern that the bleacher parts were not being protected.  These parts are presently being piled up on the sides of the gym.  Member Benjamin asked if the gym was being used by outsiders.  The modifications to the backstops will be made during the spring break. The science casework will be replaced.
East Elementary School (Heery, Strekalovsky and Hoit)
Construction and Budget Status - Mr. Peter Collins gave an update on the construction project.  DF Pray will be preparing a schedule update at the end of the month. The structural steel is being installed.  Minor demolition work is occurring in the existing building.  The committee reviewed the photos of the structure being installed.  Future work will be to enclose the building so that temporary heating can be brought in to remove the frost so that the slab can be poured.  Chairman Wolk asked about legislation regarding classroom locks.  The media center and computer classroom redesign has been approved by the school administration.  A drawing will be issued to the contractor.
Potential Change Orders: The committee reviewed the PCO log.
FF&E and Technology Purchasing Status: The chairman asked about the new master spreadsheet. No items are being purchased under FF & E at this time.
Color selection: The window color has been selected and it will be bronze.  The gym layout was discussed.  It was the consensus of the committee to have the gym striped the same as Cottage however, the emblem will remain.  A proposal request will be issued to the contractor.  The committee asked Mr. Collins to research the diameters of the volleyball poles.

Middle School:
School Committee member Gilligan stated that he met with KBA about developing a scope for the repairs at the Middle school.  Chairman Wolk asked about the funding of these items and he was told that the School Department would fund this. A cost estimate for the design work and repairs will be developed. (Member Gladstone arrived)

The portion of the meeting closed at 7:50pm.

The next meeting for the SSBC will be Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the Town Hall at 6:30pm.

Respectfully submitted:

Maureen R. Doherty - Recording Secretary
