Community Center Repairs: There have been some problems at the community center due to the failure of the ceiling in the front foyer and dining room areas.  Proposals from structural engineers/architectural firms will be solicited to determine the impact of this situation on code compliance and structural integrity of the building.

East Elementary School Project

Construction status report (Heery and SHR) - Mr. Peter Collins gave an overview of the construction project at the East Elementary School.  There has been an effort to clear up the backlog of outstanding paperwork that was needed to move the project forward.  There has been a renewed effort by both the contractor and sub contractors to complete the project.  Mr. Collins discussed the activity report photos that display the types of finish work that is ongoing at this time.  The increase in staffing has had a positive impact on the project.  Mr. Collins stated that he feels that the increase in staffing is a direct result of the resolution of the outstanding paperwork.  The kitchen walls will be treated with fiberglass treated panels.  The work in the cafetorium is ongoing with the installation of the sprinklers, ductwork, wall finish and floor finish.  The roofing contractor has been onsite to make the front entrance watertight.  There has been a resolution of the steel column detail that was outstanding.  This entrance should be completed by the end of July.  The fire alarm system is being installed. There will be two annunciator panels - one at each entrance.  There are four smaller roof top air conditioning units because the roof frame could not support the larger units.  The boiler units have been installed and tested.  There has been some concrete work that has taken place last week. More concrete work will take place in the next two weeks.  The site will be prepared for hydro- seeding within the next two weeks.

Roof Testing – The committee reviewed the report that was issued by the testing agency RJ Kenny.  The corrective work needs to be completed by the roofing contractor prior to further investigative work to determine the proper way to correct this situation.  The RJ Kenny report stated that the areas in question are in the vicinity of the dormers, which has not been properly installed in accordance with the project documents.

Other Issues

MOTION:       To authorize the chair or vice chair to sign Change Order # 3 in the amount of $59,097.00 (Benjamin/Gladstone – unanimous)

MOTION:       To authorize the chair or vice chair to sign Change Order  # 4 in the amount of $ 158,694.00 (Belton/Gilligan – unanimous)

Completion Date- The committee discussed the request from the contractor to forward an interim requisition to the cover change order work.  Members of the committee asked about the possibility of completing the job on August 1st.  Mr. Scott Pray, owner of DF Pray stated that with the renewed spirit of cooperation that he anticipates the project would be completed by the August 1st date unless that there are any unforeseen complications.

Site Work - Mr. Collins informed the committee that there was some additional site work that was needed to improve the fields.  It was the consensus of the committee not to issue new scope work

Cottage Elementary School project - Mr. Ken Wertz gave an overview of the project and commented that the electric work is still the major item on the punch list.  The science counters have not been installed and the color was re-submitted to the architect's office.  Mr. Laprise stated that there would be a lot of work taking place this weekend.  Exterior and interior punch list and contract work items will be completed this weekend

Punch list and closeout status (SHR)- There was discussion regarding the installation of the fresh air intake louvers near the bus turn around.  The chairman asked Mr. Hoit to get a written response from the engineers.  The committee asked for this response and will review this item to determine if a design change may be necessary.  Mr. Wertz asked about the status of the stage light installation.  Mr. Hoit will look into this situation and respond back to the committee to get this resolved.  Questions were also raised about the accessibility of the boys gang bathroom and the clearance in the kitchen.  There are still several electrical areas that need to be resolved.  Mr. Laprise stated that there would be an electrician on site this week. The chairman asked that the architect works on this project and has a full report within the next two weeks.

Sharon Middle School Abatement Project

Project and bid status - The asbestos abatement will be going out to bid on June 23, 2003.  KBA was invited to July 6th meeting to give an overview of the project status.
