Minutes of the February 15th, 2007 WMAC Meeting

Attendees: Paul Lauenstein - Chair, David Crosby, David Ferestien, David Hearne, Rory McGregor - Secretary.

Absent: Len Sekuler, Mike Sherman, Jack Sulik.

Guests: Eric Hooper - DPW Chief, Bob Shelmerdine - representing Intoccia Corp, Robert West and Stephen Campbell - representing Coler & Colanantonio.

1.  Minutes from January 22nd meeting were approved with amendments as presented by Paul Lauenstein.  Revised minutes will be forwarded to Town Hall for

posting on the town web site.

2.  Paul Lauenstein submitted WMAC annual report for inclusion in the Town Annual Report.  Paul had circulated a draft to the WMAC committee via email and incorporated comments as appropriate.

3.  Review of well pumping data for Januay shows that this has been the lowest volume in 8 years.  Elimination of water system leaks is part of the reason. Water table at this time is down due to lack of ground freezing for the first half of the winter months.

4.  Drilling for new well in the property along Old Post Road (Gobbi property) indicates only surface water on the bog side, but potential water on the other side.  Ground has 30 to 40 feet of loose till.  Conditions appear similar to

Well #5.  Production potential could be 250K gal/day (GPD).  Presence of Mn, Fe and fines in the core samples.

Eric expects water quality test results in the near future.  Then he will recommend an action plan.

5.  Stoughton is running a hydraulic model for the emergency backup connection requested by Sharon.  They must calibrate their model to look at hook ups at three possible locations: Chemung, Cobbs Corner and Plain Street.  Volume scenarios include 250K to 1 million GPD.

6.  Well #6 could require a capital expenditure of up to $2 million to eliminate the Fe and Mn. Greensand filtration is the recommended method.

7.  The selectmen will meet with the cemetery representatives in the near future concerning the proposed Edgehill well which could produce a potential

volume of up to 350K GPD.

8.  Representatives from Intoccia Corp identified above presented the development planning to date for the life style center along I-95 off of South Main Street.  Intoccia is soliciting input from WMAC for any design considerations

that would best serve the town’s water system while supporting the proposed water needs for the new development.  Both the Town of Sharon and the MA Dept of Environmental Protection will review final plans for the development. Several suggestions for best use practices and conservation opportunities were discussed.  Paul Lauenstein agreed to craft a draft document for review by WMAC members which could be presented to Intoccia by

the Selectmen prior to the Special Town meeting on March 12th.

9.  75 radio relay water meters have been installed throughout town by the DPW Water Dept.  This has been the training phase.  Now the town will target the Hampton Road area for the first installation (approx 1000 homes).  Eric Hooper is considering a recent vendor proposal to provide acoustic leak detection in 50 to 500 of the radio relay meters.

10.  New Water rates for town residents begin implementation starting with bills that go out March 1st.  Further discussion on what to do about commercial

water rates led to the decision to invite Crescent Ridge Dairy, our largest water user, to a WMAC meeting to discuss the future direction for water rates.
